President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially appointed two individuals to the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM), reinforcing the country’s commitment to a transparent and credible electoral process. The appointees, Mohamed Zahid and Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed, bring valuable expertise to the commission as they take on their new roles.
The Elections Commission, a vital institution established under Article 167(a) of the Maldivian Constitution, is tasked with overseeing elections, referendums, and related processes throughout the country. The President’s appointments are in line with Article 168(b) of the Constitution and the Elections Commission Act (Act no. 8/2008), ensuring the commission’s structure remains robust and effective.
Zahid and Rasheed took their oaths of office today in a ceremony held at the President’s Office. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Hon Uz Mahaz Ali Zahir, marking the official start of their tenure on the commission. Their appointment comes at a significant time as the ECM continues to focus on maintaining electoral integrity and fairness.
This development is expected to strengthen the commission’s efforts in ensuring that elections in the Maldives continue to meet the highest standards of transparency and democratic values. With Zahid and Rasheed joining the team, the ECM is poised to further enhance its capabilities in overseeing the nation’s electoral processes.
