President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to the development of an airport in HA. Dhihdhoo, assuring residents that the long-anticipated project will move forward as planned.
Speaking during his visit to the island as part of his tour of Haa Alif Atoll, the President revealed that preliminary groundwork for the airport had already begun. He noted that discussions were ongoing with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and foreign partners to finalize a framework agreement. Land reclamation for the project is set to begin this year, with additional phases of development to follow.
President Muizzu pledged that his next visit to Dhihdhoo would be aboard the first flight to land at the new airport, underscoring his administration’s commitment to delivering on key infrastructure projects. He emphasized that development should not be driven by political affiliations but by the needs of the people, adding that his focus remains on long-term, sustainable progress.
Beyond the airport, the President outlined several other initiatives aimed at enhancing the island’s infrastructure and services. He announced plans to expand the harbour, establish an international-standard football ground, and upgrade Dhihdhoo Hospital. Additionally, he assured residents that waste management company WAMCO would begin providing services on the island before Ramadan, addressing a critical local concern.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to citizen-centric policies, emphasizing that development projects would continue across the nation with a focus on improving the quality of life for all Maldivians.
