The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR), the country’s largest running event, is set to make its debut in Fuvahmulah City, marking a historic expansion beyond the Greater Malé region. Organized in partnership with the Fuvahmulah City Council and Women’s Development Committee, the Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run is scheduled for May 2, 2025.
Speaking at the official announcement event on Wednesday, Dhiraagu’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ali Riyaz, highlighted the significance of bringing the race to Fuvahmulah, an island known for its scenic beauty and unique ecosystem.
“We are excited to promote Fuvahmulah City as a key destination for runners, offering participants the chance to experience its natural landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality while running on an internationally certified route,” Riyaz stated.
Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq expressed enthusiasm for hosting the event, emphasizing the city’s potential as a premier running destination.
“It is an honor for Fuvahmulah City to host the Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run 2025. This event not only highlights the natural charm of our city but also places Fuvahmulah on the map as a destination for international runners. We look forward to welcoming participants from across the Maldives and beyond,” he said.
Registration for the event is set to open in the first week of February via a dedicated website.
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is the only international race in the Maldives listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar and certified by World Athletics.
By expanding the race to Fuvahmulah, Dhiraagu aims to promote a healthier, more active lifestyle while also supporting local tourism by showcasing the island’s unique appeal.
