In a bid to enhance tourism promotion efforts, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Public Service Media (PSM). The collaboration was announced during a special function on Monday, where PSM launched its Ramadan and 2025 programming lineup.
The agreement was formalized through a signing ceremony between PSM’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Nasreen, and MMPRC’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiury. The partnership aims to leverage PSM’s media platforms, particularly the newly launched Maldives TV, to showcase the natural beauty of the Maldives to a global audience.
As a key highlight of the event, Minister of Tourism and Environment Thorig Ibrahim officially launched Maldives TV, the country’s first dedicated destination television channel. The channel will feature breathtaking visuals of the Maldives, offering a unique promotional platform to attract international visitors.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Thorig emphasized the importance of this initiative in supporting the government’s tourism goals. “The launch of Maldives TV comes at a crucial time when extensive efforts are being made to promote the destination. This initiative will provide an additional boost to those efforts. By showcasing the Maldives’ natural beauty, I am confident that we can achieve this year’s target of welcoming 2.3 million tourists,” he stated.
As part of the agreement, MMPRC and Maldives TV will collaborate on four key tourism promotion initiatives:
- Visit Maldives Book of Records – A program highlighting historically significant events in the country.
- Dornier Wreck Project – A campaign to submerge an aircraft wreck as part of developing a new dive site.
- Burunuboma Fishing Tournament – A sustainable, catch-and-release fishing competition promoting eco-friendly tourism.
- Visit Maldives Hackathon – A creative event to explore innovative destination marketing solutions.
With ambitious tourism targets set for the year, the Maldivian government is actively expanding its promotional efforts both online and offline. These include participation in international travel fairs and launching global marketing campaigns. The partnership between MMPRC and PSM is expected to play a crucial role in amplifying these efforts, further strengthening the Maldives’ position as a premier tourist destination.
