In a unanimous decision on Monday afternoon, the Maldivian Parliament approved the dual appointments of four ambassadors nominated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to serve as non-residential representatives to five additional countries.
Earlier this month, President Muizzu submitted letters to Parliament requesting the approval for these appointments. The following ambassadors were approved:
- Dr. Mariyam Shabeena, currently serving as Ambassador to Malaysia, has been designated as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Brunei.
- Geela Ali, the Ambassador to Belgium, will also represent the Maldives as the Non-Resident Ambassador to both the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
- Iruthisham Adam, serving as Ambassador to the United Kingdom, has been appointed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to France.
- Mohamed Luveiz, the Ambassador to Singapore, will additionally act as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Australia.
Voting results from the session were as follows: Dr. Shabeena received 47 votes, Geela Ali secured 48 votes, Iruthisham Adam received 45 votes, and Mohamed Luveiz garnered 48 votes. All four nominees were approved unanimously by Parliament.
