The Eid Haveeru 1446 festivities in Malé City have been extended by two more days after an exceptional public turnout and positive reception. Originally planned as a one-day event, the celebrations will now continue into Monday and Tuesday, offering residents and visitors additional opportunities to take part in the festivities.
The extended events will take place at Sultan Park, Republic Square, and the Islamic Centre, with various cultural and entertainment activities lined up. Organised in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the event showcased Maldivian heritage and traditions, featuring contributions from multiple agencies, including the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service, and several state-owned enterprises.
One of the major highlights of the celebrations was the inclusion of beloved children’s characters from different generations, creating an engaging and nostalgic experience for families.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed were among those who attended the event, mingling with the crowd, visiting stalls, taking photos, and joining in on the festivities. Their presence further enriched the celebratory atmosphere.
Many attendees expressed that this year’s Eid celebrations have been among the most memorable in recent history, particularly for residents of Malé, who enjoyed a vibrant and welcoming environment to mark the special occasion with their families. With two more days of celebrations ahead, excitement remains high as the public continues to embrace the extended festivities.
