Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has arrived in Malta on an official visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and exploring new avenues for cooperation between the two island nations.
During his stay, Minister Khaleel is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg. The talks are expected to focus on reinforcing Maldives-Malta relations and exchanging views on a range of issues of mutual concern.
The visit includes a series of high-level engagements with key members of Malta’s cabinet. According to the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, the agenda covers potential collaboration in several critical areas, including environmental protection, sustainable development, renewable energy transition, trade, and tourism.
Accompanying Minister Khaleel on this trip are Foreign Secretary Dr Hala Hameed and Senior Under Secretary Hassan Hussain Shihaab, underscoring the importance of the visit in the Maldives’ broader foreign policy objectives.
The visit reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to deepen international partnerships, particularly with fellow small island states that share similar development priorities and climate-related challenges.
