In a bold reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to justice, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared that the Constitution and rule of law will be upheld without fear or favour, assuring the public that no citizen will receive special treatment—regardless of power, position, or political leaning.
Taking to social media, President Muizzu stressed that his government will never tolerate discrimination in the application of justice. “No one has been, nor will be, above the law due to their wealth, status, or political affiliation,” he stated unequivocally. His words strike at the heart of a growing public demand for greater transparency and accountability in the judicial system.
The president’s assurance comes on the heels of mounting public debate surrounding a recent incident in Malé’s Henveiru ward. On April 18, a woman was found on the rooftop of a house after reportedly falling while intoxicated. According to the Maldives Police Service, preliminary findings suggest the woman acted alone and no foul play has been established. Yet, the event has triggered speculation across social media, with calls for clarity and fairness in the investigative process.
Responding to these concerns, police officials emphasized that the case is being handled with full adherence to legal protocols, and that no bias has influenced their investigation.
President Muizzu’s statement serves as a direct message to those questioning whether justice in the Maldives is selectively applied. It also reflects a broader ambition of his administration: to restore public confidence in state institutions by ensuring that laws are enforced equally—regardless of name, title, or connection.
As the investigation continues, the President has pledged that his government will maintain unwavering transparency and hold all institutions accountable to the same constitutional standards.
In a time of political noise and public doubt, Dr Muizzu’s message is clear: in his Maldives, justice will not wear a blindfold for some, and not for others.
