The Parliament has given its nod to the appointment of Mujuthaz Mohamed as the new Vice President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), following his nomination by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Mujuthaz was appointed as a member of the CSC by the President on April 20. Just a day later, President Muizzu submitted his name to the Parliament for the position of Vice President of the Commission. The nomination was reviewed and endorsed by the Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions, paving the way for the final vote on the floor.
In Tuesday’s sitting, Mujuthaz received overwhelming support, with 64 members voting in favor of his appointment.
A trained lawyer, Mujuthaz Mohamed holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the Maldives College of Higher Education. He brings with him a wealth of experience in public service, having previously served as the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and as the Member of Parliament for Hanimaadhoo. His career also includes a number of senior roles within the government.
He takes over from Ibrahim Rasheed, who stepped down from the CSC amid ongoing efforts in Parliament to remove him from the post.
With parliamentary approval now secured, President Muizzu is expected to formally appoint Mujuthaz as the Vice President of the Civil Service Commission in the coming days.
