The official website for the upcoming National Juvenile Justice Conference 2025 has been launched, offering a central platform for information on what is being hailed as a milestone event in the Maldives’ effort to reform and strengthen its juvenile justice system.
Scheduled to take place from May 10 to 12, the conference is the first of its kind to bring together all major stakeholders in the juvenile justice sector, including government bodies, law enforcement, academic institutions, and international partners. Public Service Media (PSM) has been announced as the official media partner for the event.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which is spearheading the initiative, the main goal of the conference is to address systemic challenges within juvenile justice using evidence-based approaches. The conference will also serve as a platform to foster greater collaboration among agencies, reduce institutional barriers, and identify meaningful reform strategies.
The newly launched website will serve as a hub for all details related to the event — including an overview of the agenda, discussion themes, biographies of keynote speakers, and schedules for panel discussions. The site is aimed at enhancing transparency and accessibility for participants and the general public.
Over the course of the three-day event, eight research papers will be presented, covering a range of critical topics. These papers have been submitted by government entities, higher education institutions, and other stakeholders in the field. In addition, two keynote addresses are expected to set the tone for the conference, focusing on the future direction of juvenile justice policy and practice.
The conference will host representatives from sixteen agencies as technical participants, including the Prosecutor General’s Office, Maldives Police Service, Ministry of Social and Family Development, UNICEF, and several universities and colleges. Eleven additional agencies will attend as observers. The agenda includes expert-led panel discussions, open dialogue sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities aimed at creating actionable outcomes.
Organizers say the conference represents a significant step forward in unifying efforts across sectors to ensure a more just, coordinated, and rehabilitative approach to juvenile justice in the Maldives.
