In a powerful address marking National Children’s Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu delivered a passionate message to the nation, describing the protection and proper upbringing of Maldivian children as the foundation of national prosperity and continuity.
Speaking from the heart, President Muizzu reminded the country that children are not just the joy of today — they are the guardians of tomorrow. “They are the delight of our eyes and the comfort of our souls,” he declared, as he outlined his vision for a future where every child is nurtured to become a proud, capable, and values-driven citizen.
Calling for national unity in the task of child-rearing, the President said the well-being and moral development of children is not just a family responsibility but a collective obligation of the Maldivian people. He emphasised that safeguarding children from negative influences — both online and offline — is crucial to ensuring a future generation that will uphold Maldivian sovereignty, Islamic faith, and cultural identity.
“Children today make up nearly a quarter of our population,” President Muizzu noted, “and tomorrow, they will be the ones to lead this nation, protect its dignity, and shape its destiny.”
Citing the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the President highlighted that every child is born with purity and innocence — a natural inclination to sincerity and goodness. He stressed that the values children absorb stem directly from the behaviour of adults around them, adding that parents, teachers, and leaders must set righteous examples for the young to follow.
President Muizzu went beyond general calls for protection. He laid out a vision of a society grounded in mutual respect, Islamic manners, and civic discipline — beginning from home and echoed across all public spaces. He underlined the need for a modern, forward-looking education system that doesn’t merely prepare students academically, but molds them into responsible, patriotic Maldivian Muslim youth.
In an inspiring message directly addressed to the children of the Maldives, President Muizzu urged them to take full advantage of their formative years — to seek knowledge, maintain discipline, honour their elders, and stay rooted in the Islamic faith and national values. He likened love for the homeland to the deep, instinctive love a child has for their mother, calling on students to build strong character and avoid the distractions of idleness and harmful habits.
Reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to future generations, the President concluded with a powerful declaration:
“The children of today carry the soul of tomorrow’s Maldives. Their strength will be our shield; their success, our victory.”
As the nation celebrated Children’s Day with parades, school events, and family gatherings, President Muizzu’s address served as a reminder that a strong, sovereign Maldives depends not only on its leaders, but on how it raises its children.
