Foreign Ministry Urges Maldivians in Middle East to Exercise Caution Amid Regional Tensions

As tensions escalate across the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives has issued a public advisory urging Maldivian nationals living in or traveling through the region to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to local safety directives.

The advisory follows a statement made by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, via social media, where he noted that the Ministry and Maldivian diplomatic missions are actively monitoring the wellbeing of citizens in affected areas. He acknowledged the complexity of the situation and expressed concern over the temporary closure of airspace in several Middle Eastern countries, which may affect travel plans and the movement of people.

“In this time of heightened instability in the Middle East, we are closely observing the condition of Maldivians in the region,” said Dr. Khaleel. “We strongly advise all Dhivehi citizens to remain alert and follow the guidance provided by their respective host governments.”

The Ministry also encouraged citizens to stay connected with the nearest Maldivian embassy or consulate for updates and support. Officials confirmed that contingency measures are in place to assist Maldivians should the situation worsen.

With the geopolitical climate in the Middle East remaining fragile, the Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of all Maldivian citizens abroad and pledged to provide timely updates through official channels.
