The ministry also reported that 2,068 students have successfully graduated in 2025 through the scheme, while a total of 8,086 students are currently pursuing their first degrees with state funding.

The First Degree Scheme is a cornerstone of the government’s education policy, aimed at increasing access to higher education by providing full scholarships to eligible students. It covers tuition fees, monthly stipends, and other academic expenses for students studying in both local and international institutions.

Officials noted that the growing number of graduates is a positive indicator of the programme’s success in developing a skilled and educated workforce, aligned with the national goals of economic diversification and social mobility.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring continued support for Maldivian youth seeking higher education.
