Baa Atoll, Maldives — President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu commenced a four-day developmental tour of Baa Atoll on Monday, starting with Kamadhoo Island and progressing through Kudarikilu, Kendhoo, and culminating today in Eydhafushi, the administrative center of the atoll. The tour is accompanied by several cabinet ministers and heads of government agencies, aiming to bring a citizen-centric development model to local communities.
Kamadhoo: Tackling Neglect with Inclusive Development
At Kamadhoo, President Muizzu highlighted the island’s previous neglect and vowed a new era of citizen-focused governance. He reaffirmed commitments to upgrade health, education, and sports infrastructure, including the promised construction of a proper football ground.
Strengthening local tourism and infrastructure, the government signed two critical agreements during the visit:
-
A new school building project was greenlit, with contracts signed by Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu and Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation’s Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel.
-
Another agreement established seaplane service to the island, signed by Island Aviation Services Ltd.’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Iyas, and Hawks Hotel’s Director, Hussain Aman.
The President emphasized that both projects aim to uplift educational access and economic opportunity, as well as foster sustainable connectivity.
Kudarikilu and Kendhoo: Prioritizing Local Voices
Subsequent stops in Kudarikilu and Kendhoo featured similar engagements. President Muizzu met with island councils, Women’s Development Committees, and institutional leaders to address local development concerns, in line with his decentralised service philosophy.
Eydhafushi: Administrative Hub Engagement and Infrastructure Pledges
Today, the President is scheduled to visit Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll’s administrative capital. As a hub of governance and regional services, the island represents a strategic focal point for atoll-wide initiatives.
A President Focused on the People
Throughout the tour, President Muizzu has stressed that his administration’s decisions are guided first and foremost by the needs and aspirations of the people. He underscored that development is only meaningful when it directly improves the quality of life for citizens, and pledged to ensure that every project initiated under his leadership will address the real challenges faced by communities across the Maldives.
