The Australian Government has donated a set of surveillance drones to the Maldives Customs Service to support the agency’s border monitoring and enforcement operations.
A special handover ceremony was held at the Customs headquarters to mark the occasion. During the event, Australian Ambassador to the Maldives David Jessup officially presented the drones—donated by the Australian Border Force—to Commissioner General of Customs Fathimath Dhiyana, who accepted them on behalf of the Maldives Customs Service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner General Dhiyana expressed appreciation to the Australian Government and the Australian Border Force for their continued support and partnership. She noted that the new drones will significantly enhance Customs’ surveillance, border security, and port management capabilities, enabling more effective monitoring of the Maldives’ vast maritime territory.
The donation reflects the growing cooperation between Australia and the Maldives in strengthening maritime security, trade facilitation, and regional law enforcement efforts.
