More than 1,900 temporary parking spaces have been introduced across Hulhumalé in an effort to relieve growing parking and traffic challenges faced in Malé City.
According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), a total of 1,964 designated parking spots have now been marked for four-wheel vehicles. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation as part of wider efforts to improve road safety, reduce congestion and organise vehicle parking more efficiently.
The temporary parking slots have been distributed across key areas in Hulhumalé. This includes:
-
115 spaces near Masjid-ul-Waalidhain
-
254 spaces near Ghazee School
-
1,233 spaces surrounding Hiyaa Tower 16
-
362 spaces in the vicinity of Vinares Flats
HDC said the newly allocated zones are intended to serve as an interim measure while a permanent solution is developed. The corporation confirmed that work is already underway to build multi-storey parking facilities to address the long-term needs of residents and vehicle owners in Hulhumalé and the wider capital region.
Officials noted that the additional spaces are expected to ease pressure on busy roads and improve access for motorists, pedestrians and emergency vehicles.
