Police Service Launches Major Digital Transformation Under Maldives 2.0 Agenda

The Maldives Police Service has embarked on a sweeping digital transformation as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Maldives 2.0 initiative, marking one of the most significant institutional modernisation efforts in the country’s law enforcement history.

The reform programme aims to move the police from traditional manual processes toward integrated digital systems that enhance service delivery, improve efficiency and strengthen public safety. Senior officials say the transition represents a fundamental shift in policing philosophy, driven by the need to keep pace with rapid technological change and the evolving expectations of the public.

As part of the rollout, several new platforms have been introduced. A dedicated Cyber Portal now provides citizens with information on online threats, cybercrime awareness and scam prevention. The Police Enterprise Management System (PEMS) has been deployed to streamline internal communication, coordinate operations across departments and support data-driven decision-making.

Additional digital tools have been implemented to monitor infrastructure projects and manage the police vehicle fleet, enabling real-time tracking, fuel usage oversight and improved logistical planning.

Public-facing services have also undergone significant upgrades. An enhanced mobile application now allows citizens to report crimes, submit evidence, follow up on cases and communicate directly with investigating officers. The app consolidates several administrative functions as well, offering digital applications for prison visits, legal representation, and tracking of lost or towed property — reducing the need for in-person visits to police stations.

Officials say integrating these platforms into a unified digital ecosystem will promote transparency, strengthen accountability and reinforce institutional integrity. The Maldives Police Service describes the initiative as a major step toward aligning law enforcement with the needs of a modern, technology-reliant society.
