The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has received 518 applications for flats and land in the Malé area within the first 24 hours of opening applications under the government’s Housing for All Policy.
Applications were officially opened during a ceremony held on Sunday morning, marking the start of a new phase in the government’s housing programme. According to figures released by the ministry, 399 applications were submitted for flats, while 119 applications were received for land during the initial 24-hour period. In addition, the online system recorded 3,836 applications saved in draft form, indicating strong public interest.
The ministry said applications for flats under the Housing for All Policy will remain open until April 17, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Meanwhile, applications for land under the Family Housing Programme must be submitted by March 4, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Revised regulations governing both flat and land allocation schemes have been published in the Government Gazette, following amendments aimed at improving fairness and transparency. The updated rules were gazetted on November 17, 2025.
According to the ministry, the revisions were made after considering concerns raised during public meetings held by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, as well as feedback received from the public after the initial release of the regulations. Officials said the changes were intended to better reflect housing needs and address issues highlighted by residents.
Under the revised land allocation framework, applications are categorised into two main groups, along with several special priority categories. A total of 10,000 land plots will be allocated to Malé residents, 3,000 plots to long-term residents, and 2,000 plots under special priority categories.
The ministry said the early response to the scheme reflects continued demand for housing in the capital region, adding that applications will continue to be monitored as the submission period progresses.
