The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MBBC) has formally begun using its official logo, marking a symbolic step in establishing its institutional identity as the country’s newest broadcasting regulator.
According to the Commission, the logo came into official use on 3 March. Designed to reflect the body’s mandate and vision, the emblem incorporates several elements that highlight its commitment to media development and oversight.
MBBC explained that quotation marks featured in the logo represent freedom of expression — a principle central to its regulatory mission. Radiating broadcast waves embedded in the design are intended to depict the swift transmission of information in today’s media landscape.
The logo is divided into four distinct components, symbolising the media’s longstanding role as the “fourth estate” within democratic governance structures.
In addition, the design integrates three Thaana letters — Meemu, Baa, and Kaafu — an intentional nod to Maldivian linguistic and cultural heritage. The Commission stated that the inclusion of these letters underscores its emphasis on preserving national identity within the broadcasting sector.
The MBBC was recently established to regulate and develop the broadcasting industry in the Maldives. Beyond visual branding, officials say the rollout of the logo signals a renewed commitment to strengthening media freedom while encouraging ethical and responsible journalism.
As the Commission continues to build its operational framework, it maintains that promoting professional standards and safeguarding freedom of expression will remain at the heart of its mission.
