The Maldives Police Service has announced plans to host its “Rakka Roadshow” in Raa Atoll, as part of ongoing efforts to promote road safety awareness and responsible driving practices across communities.
According to police, this year’s programme will run from April 17 to April 27, bringing a series of activities to islands within the atoll aimed at educating the public and encouraging safer road behaviour.
Focus on Awareness and Community Engagement
Officials said the initiative is designed to strengthen public understanding of traffic rules and improve overall road discipline. By combining education with community engagement, the programme seeks to reach a wide audience, including students, drivers and young people.
Range of Activities Planned
A variety of events are scheduled throughout the roadshow, including:
- Road safety walks
- Team-building activities
- “Beach Blast” events
- Quiz competitions
- Volleyball and futsal tournaments
In addition to these, targeted programmes such as the “Traffic Monitors Programme” for students and the “Fahi Raastha” initiative will also be conducted.
Targeting Youth and Drivers
Police said the specialised programmes are aimed at instilling a culture of road safety among young people and regular road users, with a focus on long-term behavioural change.
Authorities have increasingly prioritised awareness campaigns such as the Rakka Roadshow as part of broader efforts to reduce traffic incidents and improve compliance with road regulations nationwide.
