Over 6,000 Eligible to Vote in Run-Off Polls This Saturday

The Elections Commission (EC) has confirmed that 6,093 voters are eligible to participate in the second round of voting for the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections scheduled for this Saturday.

The re-vote will be held across five constituencies where earlier results ended in a tie, requiring a fresh round of polling to determine final winners.

Constituencies Involved in Re-Vote

According to the Commission, the second round will include:

  • A women’s reserved council seat in Dhonfan
  • A councillor seat in the Dhadimagu constituency of Fuvahmulah City, also reserved for women
  • The election of a WDC President in Kelaa
  • WDC member positions in Neykurendhoo and Maavah

Voter Distribution and Polling Arrangements

The EC has published both the voter registry and polling station details for the upcoming vote. Candidates were given an opportunity to review and verify the lists at the Commission’s Election Centre between noon and 6:00 p.m. today.

A total of 14 ballot boxes will be deployed across the affected constituencies, including several placed in Malé to accommodate voters residing in the capital.

Of the total eligible voters:

  • 1,729 are registered in Kelaa
  • 1,056 in Neykurendhoo
  • 441 in Dhonfan
  • 1,556 in Maavah
  • 1,311 in Dhadimagu, Fuvahmulah

Voting in Malé

For voters based in Malé, six ballot boxes will be made available:

  • Voters from Kelaa and Dhonfan will cast ballots at Thaajuddeen School
  • Voters from Neykurendhoo and Maavah will vote at Hiriya School
  • Voters from Dhadimagu constituency will vote at Dharumavantha School

In the islands themselves, two ballot boxes will be placed in Kelaa, Maavah and Dhadimagu, while one ballot box will be stationed in Neykurendhoo and Dhonfan.

Officials say the arrangements are intended to ensure smooth and accessible voting for all eligible participants.
