President Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fairness, justice and equality, stating that governance will remain consistent regardless of electoral outcomes.
Speaking at a gathering in Rasdhoo, the President addressed supporters following the recent Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, where candidates from the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) secured victories in several constituencies, including Rasdhoo, Thoddoo and Ukulhas.
“Public Office is a Sacred Trust”
In his remarks, President Muizzu described elected positions as an “amanat” — a sacred trust placed by the people — urging newly elected councillors and WDC members to uphold integrity and responsibility in their roles.
He emphasised that public officials must serve all citizens equally, regardless of political support.
“You must be sincere in carrying out your responsibilities. There should be no distinction between those who voted for you and those who did not. Everyone must be treated equally,” the President said, calling on representatives to act with honesty, cooperation and accountability.
Commitment Beyond Political Outcomes
Reflecting on the election results, the President acknowledged that while the PNC secured gains in several areas, the party did not win control of city councils and also faced setbacks in the nationwide referendum.
He said the mixed outcome — combining both victories and losses — would not alter the government’s approach to governance.
“My policy, whether in success or failure, is to prioritise fairness and justice,” he said.
Development to Continue Across All Islands
President Muizzu assured that development efforts would proceed across all constituencies without discrimination, including areas where the ruling party did not secure electoral wins.
He said the government will continue to work closely with all elected councils and WDC members, regardless of affiliation, to deliver on national development commitments.
“We will move forward with fulfilling every promise made to the people and ensure development reaches every island,” he added.
Focus on Inclusive Governance
The President concluded by reiterating that the administration’s guiding principle is to serve the public with equality and fairness, stressing that delivering on pledges and maintaining inclusive governance will remain central to its agenda.
