President Muizzu Says Government Will Deliver on Promises Regardless of Council Cooperation

President Mohamed Muizzu has said his administration will continue to implement its development agenda and fulfil commitments to the public, even in situations where cooperation from local councils is lacking.

The remarks were made during a gathering held in Rasdhoo, where supporters celebrated the success of candidates from the People’s National Congress (PNC) in the recent Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections in Rasdhoo, Thoddoo and Ukulhas.

Addressing attendees, the President stressed that regardless of political affiliation, elected representatives should prioritise Islam and the national interest in their work. He said the election outcome reflects the values held by a large portion of the population, noting that many voters support policies aligned with those principles.

President Muizzu also expressed appreciation to the public for their support, adding that the government will continue to serve all communities, including those where it did not secure decisive victories.

The President raised concerns over the conduct of some newly elected figures, stating that certain individuals had engaged in behaviour that does not align with expected standards of responsibility and public service.

He noted that voters place trust in their representatives to act with integrity, carry out their duties faithfully and set a positive example within their communities.

Referring specifically to Malé City Council, President Muizzu suggested that early signs indicate a lack of cooperation with the government.

“From what we are seeing now, it does not appear that Malé City Council will provide that cooperation,” he said, pointing to developments observed within days of the election.

The President added that if councils fail to work with the government without valid reasons, such matters will be clearly communicated to the public.

Despite the concerns, the President reiterated that development efforts will continue across the country, with the government remaining committed to delivering on its promises and serving the public without interruption.
