President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has congratulated 137 young Maldivians who successfully completed the Maldives National Defence Force’s (MNDF) 72nd Basic Training Course, praising their commitment to national service and personal development.
In a message shared on his official X account, the President commended the graduates for completing the rigorous training programme and acknowledged their decision to serve the nation through the armed forces.
The latest group of graduates comprises young men and women from 70 islands spanning all 20 atolls of the Maldives, reflecting the nationwide reach of the National Service initiative.
President Muizzu noted that many participants who completed the National Service Initial Training programme have already gone on to secure employment opportunities in various sectors, highlighting the programme’s broader contribution to youth development and workforce readiness.
According to the President, the government introduced the National Service programme to help shape a generation of responsible, disciplined and self-reliant young people who possess strong moral values, confidence and a deep sense of national identity.
He emphasized that the initiative is designed to develop both physical and mental resilience while instilling leadership qualities, civic responsibility and patriotism among participants.
The President also expressed his appreciation to the graduates for what he described as their dedication to the noble duty of serving the country.
The National Service Programme is one of the government’s flagship youth-focused initiatives and forms part of a broader strategy aimed at empowering young people through structured training, education and community engagement.
Since its introduction, the programme has attracted significant interest from youths across the Maldives. Participants undergo training in areas such as leadership, discipline, physical fitness, citizenship, teamwork and national values, while also receiving certifications intended to support future career opportunities.
Government officials have repeatedly described the programme as an investment in the country’s future, aimed at producing capable young citizens who can contribute positively to national development.
The graduation of the 72nd Basic Training Course comes as the administration continues efforts to expand opportunities for youth participation in national service programmes and strengthen pathways for personal and professional growth.
