The Maldives Customs Service has opened applications for 26 Customs Officer Trainee positions, with graduates of the government’s National Service programme among those eligible to apply.
The recruitment provides multiple pathways into Customs, allowing applicants to qualify through secondary education, relevant vocational qualifications or successful completion of National Service.
Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old. Those applying through the academic route must have achieved at least a D grade in three O-Level or SSC subjects, along with a minimum C grade in Dhivehi.
Candidates holding a Level 3 Certificate in a field relevant to Customs operations may also apply, provided they have obtained at least a C grade in Dhivehi at secondary level.
A third pathway has been introduced for individuals who have successfully completed and graduated from the Maldives National Service programme, or another recognised national programme relevant to the work of Customs.
The inclusion of National Service graduates comes as the government seeks to create clearer employment pathways for young people completing the programme. Introduced under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, National Service is aimed particularly at young Maldivians who are unemployed or not pursuing higher education, providing structured training, discipline and practical skills intended to improve their readiness for employment.
Customs said successful applicants will be required to complete its basic training programme before taking up their duties. The selection process will assess candidates based on their educational qualifications as well as their performance in a physical fitness test.
The Customs Officer Trainee position carries a basic monthly salary of MVR 5,000, in addition to a fixed allowance of MVR 4,660.
Employees will also receive an attendance allowance of MVR 75 for each working day, alongside food allowance, overtime payments and holiday pay in accordance with the State Pay Framework.
The Maldives Customs Service is responsible for controlling the movement of goods across the country’s borders, collecting import-related revenue and enforcing customs laws and regulations. Customs officers also play a role in preventing the illegal movement of prohibited and restricted goods into and out of the country.
Applications for the latest recruitment must be submitted online through the recruitment portal on the Maldives Customs Service website.
The deadline is 2:00 pm next Monday.
