Tourism Minister Faisal Aims to Boost Visitor Numbers During Off-Peak Months

Maldives' Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal

Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has outlined plans to target key markets in an effort to attract more tourists to Maldives, particularly during traditionally slower months.

In an interview with state media PSM, Minister Faisal acknowledged the seasonal downturn in tourist arrivals during June and July each year. He noted that while there is a slight decrease in visitor numbers during these months, it is not as significant as in previous years.

To counteract this trend, the minister unveiled several strategies aimed at boosting tourism figures during the off-peak season. Collaborating closely with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Minister Faisal aims to increase hotel occupancy rates for Maldives from the current 15 percent to 20 percent.

Key to this effort, according to the minister, is enhancing the MMPRC’s budget allocation to intensify promotional activities targeting potential tourists. Minister Faisal emphasized the importance of investing in tourism promotion, asserting that successful campaigns can yield substantial returns.

Tourism stands as Maldives’ largest revenue-generating industry; however, its susceptibility to seasonal variations, particularly during June and July, poses challenges. Minister Faisal’s initiatives seek to mitigate these challenges by leveraging strategic marketing and promotional efforts to attract visitors during the quieter months.
