Maldives and Peru Discuss Trade and Investment Opportunities

This morning, Javier Manuel Paulinich Verlarde, the Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the Republic of Maldives, formally presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony held at the President’s Office. The Ambassador was ceremoniously escorted from Republic Square to the President’s Office in a traditional “Haiykolhu” procession accompanied by the MNDF Drum and Trumpet Band.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Verlarde presented his credentials to President Muizzu, who graciously accepted them, marking the official beginning of his term as Peru’s Ambassador to the Maldives.

Following the credential presentation, President Dr. Muizzu and Ambassador Verlarde engaged in discussions focused on identifying opportunities for enhanced cooperation between their nations, particularly in areas such as promoting exports, facilitating trade, and encouraging investments. President Dr. Muizzu emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with Peru, noting their shared status as countries from the Global South.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Peru were established on February 6, 1989, setting the stage for ongoing collaboration across various sectors.

Ambassador Verlarde is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador and is based in New Delhi, India, where he oversees diplomatic affairs concerning Maldives-Peru relations.
