In a speech delivered during the Independence Day ceremony, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured that his administration, including the President’s Office and various government ministries, has been fully responsive to all Right to Information (RTI) queries. The President emphasized his commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability across all levels of government.
During his address, President Muizzu outlined ambitious plans to introduce anti-corruption reforms that he claims are unprecedented in Maldivian history. He announced forthcoming policies that will include regular publication of expenditure reports and a new mechanism for publicly sharing payment receipts related to state services and projects. This initiative, he explained, aims to boost transparency and help the government track financial transactions more effectively.
President Muizzu also highlighted the administration’s commitment to openness by noting that it has been regularly releasing detailed cost breakdowns for foreign trips undertaken by the President and Vice President. Additionally, he spoke about the “Ahaa” public forum, a new platform designed to facilitate direct dialogue between the public and government officials. This forum invites questions from citizens, which are then addressed by Ministers and the President himself. The President mentioned that he has also been actively engaging with the public by responding to direct messages sent through the Administration’s messaging portal.
Furthering his transparency agenda, President Muizzu detailed the progress on establishing a media village to support the free operation of news media in the Maldives. He announced that a land plot has been allocated for this purpose, with construction expected to commence soon and the media village anticipated to be operational within the year. The President also reaffirmed his pledge to allocate state funds to news media outlets, with the first disbursements planned to begin next year.
