Malaysia Airlines will restart its services to the Maldives, with its first flight scheduled to arrive at Velana International Airport on the morning of August 1, 2024.
The airline will operate a Boeing 737-800, which accommodates 174 passengers, and will run flights daily between Kuala Lumpur and the Maldives.
A ceremony will be held at Velana International Airport to mark the arrival of the inaugural flight. Attendees will include officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and representatives from Malaysia Airlines.
Malaysia Airlines had previously suspended its flights to the Maldives in 2017. The return of the airline is expected to support the Maldives’ tourism sector, which saw 13,551 visitors from Malaysia last year, ranking it 26th among source markets for the country.
