Angola Appoints First-Ever Ambassador to the Maldives

Angola has officially appointed its first ambassador to the Maldives. Clemente Pedro Francisco has been named as the new Ambassador of Angola to the Maldives. The appointment marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Ambassador Francisco will serve as a non-resident ambassador, with his base in New Delhi, India. His arrival in the Maldives was marked by a traditional cultural procession known as “Haiykolhu,” which featured the MNDF Drum and Trumpet Band escorting him from the Republic Square to the President’s Office.

At the President’s Office, Ambassador Francisco presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The President welcomed the ambassador and expressed enthusiasm for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

During their meeting, President Muizzu and Ambassador Francisco discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors, with a focus on economic and trade opportunities. President Muizzu expressed hope that the relationship between the Maldives and Angola would be further developed during the ambassador’s tenure.

In addition, Ambassador Francisco met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer. Minister Zameer congratulated the new ambassador and discussed ways to deepen the diplomatic and economic ties between the Maldives and Angola.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Angola were officially established on November 10, 2020. The appointment of Ambassador Francisco underscores the ongoing commitment of both nations to fostering closer ties and expanding cooperation.
