The Government of Maldives has issued a strong condemnation following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas, in Tehran, Iran. Haniyeh was killed early Wednesday morning in an airstrike, along with one of his bodyguards. He was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.
In a press release, the Maldivian Foreign Ministry expressed its condemnation of the attack and emphasized the importance of adhering to international law and humanitarian principles. The Government of Maldives urged the international community to collaborate in seeking an urgent and lasting solution to the ongoing Gaza crisis, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the region.
“The Government of Maldives calls on all nations to uphold international law and international humanitarian law and work together towards finding an urgent and lasting solution to the Gaza crisis and ensuring peace and stability in the region,” the statement read.
