Maldives and China Sign MoU to Enhance Health Services

The Maldives Ministry of Health and the Health Commission of Sichuan Province, China, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the Maldivian health sector. The agreement was formalized during the Sichuan-Maldives Trade and Investment Cooperation Conference, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Sichuan Province.

Deputy Minister of Health Ahmed Hamdhan Nasir signed the MoU on behalf of the Maldives, while Shu Bin, Director General of the Health Commission of Sichuan Province, represented China.

The agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation, including the training of doctors, nurses, and health workers. Additionally, it will expand telemedicine services, develop emergency medical services, and facilitate the procurement of medical equipment from China. The MoU also includes provisions for assisting in the development of health facilities in the Maldives.

The signing of this agreement follows discussions held during a visit by a delegation from the Health Commission of Sichuan Province to Dhaka from June 5 to 7. During the visit, the delegation toured various hospitals and observed the services provided.

The Ministry of Health tweeted about the agreement, stating, “This agreement will significantly enhance collaboration in developing health services between Maldives and Sichuan province.”

Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin also expressed optimism about the agreement in a tweet, saying, “Looking forward to fruitful cooperation in the health area between the two sides.”

The MoU is expected to bring significant advancements to the health sector in the Maldives, benefiting both countries through enhanced cooperation and shared expertise.
