Home Minister Ali Ihusan has identified three critical areas as the government’s top priorities to ensure national security: tackling the drug epidemic, preventing gang-related crimes, and finding a permanent solution to the issue of illegal immigrants. These initiatives, he emphasized, are essential for safeguarding the country’s future.
Speaking at an event in Fuvahmulah City to mark the 10th anniversary of the “Rakkaa” road show program, Minister Ihusan outlined the government’s focused approach. He stressed that these efforts would only succeed with the collective support and cooperation of the Maldivian people.
“To bring about real change, we need everyone to understand that what has been normalized in our society must change,” Ihusan said. “We can no longer tolerate crimes that threaten the safety and security of our nation.”
The Minister acknowledged that the implementation of stricter criminal laws might cause discomfort for some, particularly those who have benefited from the previous lack of enforcement. However, he argued that the temporary hardship these individuals may face is necessary for the greater good.
“While enforcing these laws may be challenging, especially for those who are used to operating outside the law, it is a sacrifice that must be made for the safety and well-being of our country,” Ihusan added.
