President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for unified efforts to transform Maldivian society based on the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah. He made this appeal during a speech at the official ceremony marking the Day the Maldives Embraced Islam, held this morning at Dharubaaruge.
In his address, President Muizzu stressed the importance of staying committed to the principles of Islam in daily life, urging the nation to embody these values in their intentions, words, and actions. He reflected on the historical significance of the Maldivian conversion to Islam, highlighting that it was driven by the peace and security offered by the faith. The President also recalled how, at the time of conversion, the Maldives faced external threats and persecution from a regional power.
As he delved into the broader meaning of the day, President Muizzu underscored the need to learn from the noble moral virtues exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He reminded the public to refrain from spreading falsehoods or insults and encouraged people to speak only good, truthful words, emphasizing that this is a key aspect of following the Sunnah.
The ceremony was also attended by First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed, alongside other state and government officials. During the event, President Muizzu honored several Hafizs by presenting medals, prizes, and certificates to those who had earned their Hafiz certification.
The President’s remarks highlight his administration’s ongoing efforts to ensure that Islamic principles remain at the heart of governance and social transformation, reinforcing the importance of unity and faith in shaping the nation’s future.
