President Muizzu Praises Historic Maldives-India Partnership at State Banquet in New Delhi

During his first state visit to India, Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the enduring partnership between the Maldives and India, emphasizing the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the two nations. Speaking at a state banquet hosted in his honor by Indian President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi, President Muizzu expressed gratitude for India’s unwavering support and cooperation across various sectors.

“India has consistently proven to be a steadfast ally. Our cooperation spans multiple domains—from trade agreements that benefit both our economies to collaborative initiatives in health, education, and technology,” Muizzu said, addressing the Indian President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other dignitaries.

He also touched upon the long-standing people-to-people connections between the two countries, noting that many Maldivians travel to India for healthcare, education, and tourism. He particularly praised the Bollywood film industry for its cultural influence on the Maldivian people, regardless of age.

President Muizzu expressed his gratitude for India’s contributions to the Maldives’ infrastructure projects, notably the Greater Malé Connectivity Project, which is expected to reshape the economic landscape of the Maldives.

President Muizzu’s state visit to India marks a significant moment in Maldives-India relations, as both nations prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their formal diplomatic ties next year. The visit has included the exchange of multiple agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation, with a special focus on trade, financial connectivity, and digital integration.

With India’s position as one of the Maldives’ largest trading partners and top tourism markets, President Muizzu reiterated his hope to welcome even more Indian tourists to the Maldives’ pristine beaches.
