The People’s National Congress (PNC) is on track to become the first political party in the Maldives to surpass 100,000 members, according to its Chairperson Abdulla Abdul Raheem. Speaking at the party’s internal elections held today, Abdul Raheem emphasized the rapid growth of PNC’s membership, reflecting growing public support for the ruling party and its policies under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The internal elections, the largest ever organized by a political party in the country, involve the selection of over 2,000 leadership positions within PNC. Alongside the election process, Abdul Raheem highlighted the party’s aggressive membership drive, noting that over 50,000 new members have joined in recent months.
“The party has received 97,000 membership forms so far, with more than 75,000 members already internally registered. The numbers are steadily increasing as the Election Commission processes the applications. We are confident that PNC will be the first political party in the Maldives to operate with 100,000 members in the coming days,” he stated.
Abdul Raheem credited President Muizzu’s policies and leadership for the surge in membership, explaining that PNC’s strong performance reflects public trust in the president’s vision. “When President Muizzu assumed leadership, the party had just 3,022 members. Today, we have crossed 75,000, a testament to the people’s acceptance of his policies,” he said.
The Chairperson also expressed gratitude for the collective efforts of party members and leaders in strengthening the PNC’s organizational framework. He emphasized President Muizzu’s commitment to enhancing the party’s capabilities and ensuring its continued growth.
The PNC’s rapid expansion highlights its growing influence in Maldivian politics, with its leadership expressing optimism about reaching the 100,000-member milestone soon. Abdul Raheem concluded by stating that this achievement would further solidify public confidence in the party’s policies and leadership.
As the internal elections progress and the membership drive continues, the PNC remains focused on cementing its position as the Maldives’ largest political party.
