President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that three key government ministries displaced by last week’s fire will temporarily operate from Dharubaaruge, a government-owned facility, instead of renting additional office spaces. This arrangement will remain in place until a permanent solution is established.
The fire, which broke out on Thursday, severely damaged the offices of the Housing Ministry, Infrastructure Ministry, and Environment Ministry. Operations for all three ministries have been relocated to Dharubaaruge, where efforts are underway to ensure a functional working environment.
Presidential Visit to Dharubaaruge
On Monday, President Muizzu visited Dharubaaruge to inspect the relocated operations and meet with ministry staff. During his visit, he acknowledged the challenges posed by the fire, including the loss of employees’ personal belongings, and expressed solidarity with those affected. The President commended the resilience and determination displayed by ministry staff in the wake of the incident.
Enhancements to Temporary Facilities
The President noted that government authorities are collaborating to improve facilities at Dharubaaruge. Plans include increasing restroom availability, initiating cafeteria services, and acquiring essential electronics such as computer systems to support uninterrupted operations.
President Muizzu emphasized that the ministries will remain based in government-owned properties until a permanent arrangement is achieved, avoiding the need to rent additional office spaces.
Collaborative Efforts and Gratitude
The President also held discussions with the taskforce managing the relocation process and senior officials from state-owned companies that provided support during the transition. He extended his gratitude to the companies and institutions for their assistance in facilitating the swift relocation of ministry operations.
City Council Operations Resumption
In addition to inspecting Dharubaaruge, President Muizzu visited Galolhu School, where preparations are underway to resume the Male’ City Council’s Vital Registration office. The office’s operations had been temporarily suspended due to the fire.
The incident has sparked discussions about emergency preparedness and the need for long-term solutions to safeguard critical government operations.
