Maldives–Germany Ties in Focus as President Muizzu Begins Official Visit

President Mohamed Muizzu is set to engage in high-level official talks during an upcoming visit to Germany, where discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing shared priorities between the two countries.

During the visit, President Muizzu will meet with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as other senior officials of the German government. The talks will cover a range of issues of mutual interest to the Maldives and Germany, with an emphasis on deepening longstanding diplomatic ties.

The President’s programme also includes an academic engagement at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address highlighting the Maldives’ experience and policy approach to climate change adaptation. In addition, President Muizzu will speak at the German Council on Foreign Relations, presenting the Maldives’ perspective on the strategic role of the ocean in shaping foreign policy.

President Muizzu will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and representatives from the business community. As part of the visit, a bilateral business forum will be held, bringing together Maldivian and German stakeholders to explore investment opportunities and avenues for economic collaboration in the Maldives.

The official visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Germany. Diplomatic ties between the two nations were formally established on 5 July 1966, and the visit is expected to further reinforce cooperation across political, economic and environmental spheres.
