The government has appointed Asma Shafeeu as the Commissioner of Reform to lead the Economic Reform Office, an entity established under the Ministry of Finance to enhance the country’s financial management systems and streamline government operations.
The newly formed Economic Reform Office is tasked with spearheading swift and comprehensive initiatives to strengthen the government’s economic framework, improve fiscal operations, and support long-term financial sustainability.
Experienced Leadership
Asma Shafeeu brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously held key positions at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). Her prior roles include Director General of Planning and Development and Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation, where she played a pivotal role in shaping taxation strategies and organizational planning.
Responsibilities of the Commissioner
In her capacity as Commissioner of Reform, Asma will be responsible for driving critical reform initiatives and ensuring alignment with national economic goals. The Ministry of Finance has outlined her key duties as:

- Advising the Minister of Finance and senior advisors on reform-related matters.
