President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have extended heartfelt New Year greetings to global leaders, international organizations, and diplomatic missions as the Maldives welcomes 2025.
In their message, the President and First Lady expressed wishes for happiness, success, and prosperity for the coming year. The greetings were directed to heads of state and governments of friendly nations, as well as leaders of international organizations and resident diplomatic representatives.
In his New Year’s address to the Maldivian people, President Muizzu declared 2025 a landmark year for national development. He emphasized plans to launch numerous projects aimed at fostering economic growth and improving the well-being of all citizens.
President Muizzu outlined a clear vision for the Maldives, describing 2025 as a year to lay the groundwork for transitioning into a developed nation. He encouraged the setting of resolutions at national, community, and individual levels, emphasizing the importance of peace, respect, and unity as foundations for progress.
“The government remains committed to serving with sincerity, fulfilling promises, and building trust with the people,” President Muizzu said. He called on Maldivians to prioritize positive thinking, reconciliation, and collective efforts toward nation-building.
Reflecting on 2024, President Muizzu highlighted key achievements under his administration, including:
- Rehabilitation Initiatives: Launching community rehabilitation programs for individuals recovering from drug addiction and approving the development of rehabilitation centers across three regions.
- Economic Advancements: Establishing the Maldives Industrial Development Freezone to bolster the re-export sector and generate additional income.
- Health Reforms: Amending the Tobacco Control Act to increase duties on tobacco products while banning the import, sale, and use of vaping devices.
President Muizzu urged all Maldivians to work together toward a unified goal of national development and prosperity. “2025 will be a year of responsible nation-building for a brighter future,” he stated, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating a more equitable and progressive Maldives.
