The Maldivian government has dismissed circulating rumors regarding a potential ban on social media platforms in the country, categorically stating that no such measures are being considered.
Addressing the claims, President’s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed clarified that reports about platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) facing restrictions are unfounded.
“The claims suggesting so are entirely false, and the government has made no decisions to block any social media platforms, nor has it engaged in any discussions regarding the issue,” she said.
Heena emphasized the administration’s commitment to upholding constitutional freedoms, highlighting that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is dedicated to protecting the rights of Maldivian citizens.
“We would like to reaffirm that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu remains steadfast in promoting and safeguarding the fundamental rights and freedoms granted to our beloved citizens by the Constitution of the Maldives,” she added.
The government’s statement comes amid rising speculation on social media about potential restrictions. The administration has reassured the public that it remains committed to ensuring the widest possible scope of rights and freedoms within constitutional boundaries.
