The Bank of Maldives (BML) has signed an agreement with the Angolhitheemu Council in Raa Atoll to introduce ATM facilities on the island. The agreement was formalized during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to several islands in the atoll.
BML’s Director of Retail and SME Banking, Badhruddeen Hassan, signed the contract on behalf of the bank, while Angolhitheemu Council President Faisal Naseem represented the council.
This move is part of a larger initiative announced by BML in November last year, aiming to install ATMs on every inhabited island in the Maldives by the end of 2025. The expansion plan aligns with President Dr. Muizzu’s commitment to ensure that all Maldivians have convenient access to essential banking services.
Currently, BML operates 150 ATMs across 90 islands nationwide. Under its expansion drive, the bank intends to deploy ATMs in 17 more islands by March 2025, bolstering financial inclusion and making banking more accessible for communities across the archipelago.
