In a targeted operation aimed at tackling the illegal sale of vapes, the Maldives Police Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, successfully seized a large quantity of illegal vape products in Malé City on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the authorities raided a shop in the Galolhu area, where they discovered a significant stock of vapes that were believed to be sold unlawfully. In addition to the shop search, officers also conducted raids on the residence of a suspected vape dealer and the café where he was employed.
The operation led to the confiscation of 84 vape cartridges along with cash, which authorities suspect was generated from the illegal sales of these products. A 27-year-old Bangladeshi man was arrested in connection with the illegal trading activities.
The authorities have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to uncover more details related to the case, including the potential involvement of other parties in the illegal vape trade.
This operation is part of a broader effort by the government and law enforcement to curb the illegal import and sale of controlled substances in the country, ensuring public health and safety.
