President Muizzu Highlights Women’s Vital Role in National Progress on International Women’s Day

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the indispensable role of women in the nation’s development, emphasizing that no country can thrive without their contributions in key sectors such as education, healthcare, governance, business, and social services.

Delivering a special address to commemorate International Women’s Day, President Muizzu reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering women, expanding their opportunities in governance, and fostering their economic independence. He stressed that the Maldivian government is focused on ensuring women can actively participate in shaping the nation’s future.

Reflecting on Maldivian history, the President highlighted the spirit, dedication, and resilience of Maldivian women, acknowledging their contributions beyond the household. He described them as the pillars of society, playing a pivotal role in maintaining peace, security, and stability throughout generations.

President Muizzu further noted that women make up the majority of professionals in critical sectors, particularly in healthcare and education, reinforcing their significance in national sustainability and development. He also recognized the achievements of female athletes, praising their contributions to Maldivian sports.

Quoting the well-known saying, “Educate a woman, and you educate a generation,” President Muizzu pointed out that Maldivian girls outperform boys in secondary, higher secondary, and university education, with top achievers in academics predominantly being female. He described this trend as a positive indicator for the country’s future, as educated women play a crucial role in shaping generations to come.

Addressing women’s rights from an Islamic perspective, President Muizzu emphasized that Islam has safeguarded the dignity, honour, and status of women. He quoted Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who emphasized the importance of kindness toward mothers, wives, and women in general. In recognition of International Women’s Day, the President also honoured the contributions of the Mothers of the Believers, the wives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a society where women are given equal opportunities to thrive in leadership, business, and all sectors contributing to national development. He concluded by expressing pride in Maldivian women, acknowledging their unwavering dedication and invaluable role in shaping the Maldives’ progress.
