Two prominent legal professionals, Uz Mohamed Azmee and Uz Mohamed Shafeeu, have been elected to the Executive Committee of the Bar Council of the Maldives following a vote held on Monday.
The results of the election were officially announced and published by the Bar Council on the same day. The election was held in accordance with the Legal Profession Act, which mandates regular elections to ensure continued representation and leadership within the Council’s Executive Committee.
According to the Bar Council, a total of 1,078 ordinary members were eligible to vote in this round, with ballots cast by licensed legal practitioners across the Maldives.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the next phase of the election process, which will include selecting a new Vice-President and additional Executive Committee members. The Bar Council has set June 15, 2025, as the deadline for candidates to submit their applications for the upcoming vacancies.
The Bar Council’s Executive Committee is entrusted with critical responsibilities, including overseeing professional conduct, advancing legal education, and ensuring the independence and integrity of the legal profession in the Maldives.
