According to the Bar Council, a total of 1,078 ordinary members were eligible to vote in this round, with ballots cast by licensed legal practitioners across the Maldives.

Uz Mohamed Azmee was elected with 132 votes in favor and 96 against, from a total of 228 votes cast in his contest. Uz Mohamed Shafeeu secured a more decisive win, garnering 270 votes in favor and 39 opposed, from 309 ballots cast in his round.

The election was organized as the current term of the Vice-President and four Executive Committee members draws to a close. The newly elected members will serve a three-year term on the Executive Committee, which plays a central role in the governance, oversight, and development of the legal profession in the Maldives.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the next phase of the election process, which will include selecting a new Vice-President and additional Executive Committee members. The Bar Council has set June 15, 2025, as the deadline for candidates to submit their applications for the upcoming vacancies.

The Bar Council’s Executive Committee is entrusted with critical responsibilities, including overseeing professional conduct, advancing legal education, and ensuring the independence and integrity of the legal profession in the Maldives.
