President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to placing Islamic knowledge and the Qur’an at the centre of national development, calling it the highest priority for a 100 per cent Muslim nation.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 37th National Qur’an Competition, President Muizzu said that nurturing a society grounded in the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah is not only a government objective but a collective duty of every Maldivian.
The President urged individuals, families, and institutions to work together in promoting Qur’an recitation, Islamic education, and the preservation of religious values. He stressed that true success—both as individuals and as a nation—can only be achieved by remaining steadfast to the principles of Islam.
“Advancing Qur’anic knowledge is not just the responsibility of religious institutions or scholars,” he said. “It is a shared national mission that must involve every citizen, every household, and every organisation.”
President Muizzu emphasised that his administration’s vision for progress extends beyond physical infrastructure and economic growth. He said that development must be rooted in moral character, compassion, and mutual respect, reflecting the spiritual and cultural foundations that have long defined Maldivian society.
He reiterated that the government would continue to promote Islamic culture and integrate its values into daily life, ensuring that the nation’s religious identity remains strong amid global change.
Highlighting the enduring importance of Islam in shaping the nation’s identity, the President called on Maldivians to embrace their faith with both heart and intellect. He described Islam as the Maldives’ greatest source of pride and urged all citizens to safeguard its principles for future generations.
Concluding his address, President Muizzu reaffirmed that championing Islamic education, strengthening Qur’anic institutions, and fostering a faith-based society will remain key pillars of his administration’s policy agenda.
“Our path to progress begins with the Qur’an,” the President said. “As long as we uphold its guidance, our nation will continue to prosper—in faith, unity, and purpose.”
