Welcoming Infantino to the country, President Muizzu expressed appreciation for the visit and described football as the most loved sport in the Maldives — a game that unites people across the islands. The President also pledged continued support for the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) and its leadership, emphasizing the administration’s readiness to work closely with the association to further strengthen the sport at all levels.

Infantino, speaking during the courtesy call, acknowledged the challenges Maldivian football has faced in recent years but said he was pleased with the progress under FAM’s new leadership. He assured that FIFA remains committed to supporting football development in the Maldives, particularly through programs that nurture young talent.

Highlighting the importance of youth development, the FIFA President said sustained investment in young players could enable the Maldives to earn global recognition not only for its natural beauty but also for its achievements on the football field.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their shared dedication to advancing the sport in the Maldives and exploring new avenues for collaboration between FIFA, FAM, and the Maldivian government.
