Maldives Hosts 21st Asia Media Summit in May

Final preparations are underway in the Maldives for the 21st edition of the Asia Media Summit, an annual gathering that brings together key voices from across the global media landscape.

The event is scheduled to take place from May 11 to 14 at Villa Nautica, with this year’s theme focusing on the transition of media industries in a rapidly evolving digital era.

Regional Platform for Media Leaders

Organised by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), the summit is regarded as one of the region’s leading forums for dialogue among broadcasters, policymakers, academics and technical experts.

Participants are expected to engage in discussions on industry challenges, emerging technologies and policy directions shaping the future of media.

Focus on Digital Transformation

Under the theme “Maldives 2.0: From Tradition to Tech,” this year’s summit will explore how media institutions are adapting to technological change, including digital transformation, content innovation and evolving audience behaviour.

Sessions are set to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration and the exchange of best practices, particularly as the industry navigates the shift toward more technology-driven models.

Continuing a Regional Legacy

The Asia Media Summit has been held annually since 2004 as AIBD’s flagship event, bringing together stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Last year’s summit was hosted in Cambodia, continuing a tradition of rotating venues among member countries.

Opportunity for Industry Collaboration

Officials say hosting the summit in the Maldives offers an opportunity to strengthen regional partnerships and highlight the country’s engagement with the global media sector.

With participants expected from a wide range of professional backgrounds, the event is set to serve as a platform for shaping conversations around the future of broadcasting and media development.
