At a state banquet in New Delhi, hosted by Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the pivotal role youth should play in the future of Maldives-India relations. During his speech, President Muizzu underscored that fostering collaboration between the younger generations of both countries would create a robust foundation for innovation, education, and entrepreneurship.

“As we look to the future, we must invest in our most valuable asset—our youth,” Muizzu said. “By fostering collaborations between our educational institutions and encouraging youth engagement, we can create a generation that not only cherishes our shared heritage but also drives innovation, collaboration, and digitalization.”

President Muizzu’s visit to India, his first state visit to the country since taking office, has been marked by the exchange of key agreements and a focus on strengthening financial and trade ties. The RuPay card’s introduction in the Maldives, a major highlight of the visit, was one such initiative aimed at improving digital financial transactions between the two nations.

The President expressed his hope that the close ties between the Maldives and India would continue to strengthen in the coming years, especially as both nations approach the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. He also noted India’s support for key Maldivian infrastructure projects, such as the transformative Greater Malé Connectivity Project.

During his visit, Muizzu also highlighted the significant contribution of Indian nationals working in the Maldives, recognizing their role in the development of the country. Additionally, he extended a warm welcome to Indian tourists, who are among the largest groups visiting the Maldives.

Muizzu emphasized that open dialogue and transparent communication would be vital to navigating the evolving geopolitical landscape. As regional stability becomes increasingly important, the Maldives and India continue to build on their centuries-old ties, reinforced by both historical connections and a shared vision for the future.
